Eilid & Damh
In the aftermath of an unspeakable act, two sisters must repair their relationship and find a way to move forward. As they struggle to heal, they are reconnected with the natural world, the power of the elements and, ultimately, the strength of their love for each other. This is a story of survival, of awakening the primordial force that lives within.
a short film
starring Hannah Endicott-Douglas & Vivien Endicott-Douglas
directed by Neil Cavalier
written by Neil Cavalier & Vivien Endicott-Douglas
cinematography by Alex Coronado
original score by Petra Glynt
In December of 2018, Hannah and Vivien came up with a story idea for a short film. Vivien pitched the concept to our cousin, Neil Cavalier and he came on board to direct it. Neil and Vivien collaborated on the script and, in mid February of 2019, we shot the film up at our cottage in the Kawartha Lakes over the span of two days.
We were able to pull this film off on a very small budget (less than $2,000). We paid for everything out of pocket, didn't pay ourselves, asked a lot of favours and our crew all donated their time for free.
Our director of photography, Alex Coronado (who originally hails from Mexico), and his partner Natalia braved filming in the freezing cold with great calm, discernment and skill. The rest of our small crew was made up of our friends and family who were willing to trek through freezing weather to make this story happen. An over night shoot, a night-time load out (involving many trips pulling small sleds through kilometres of snow) and a car that wouldn't start! It was an adventure and we couldn't be happier with the result.
We are currently editing the film and hope to have a final cut by mid April. Neil's incredibly talented friend Petra Glynt is currently composing the original score. We will be submitting to film festivals this spring.
We believe in the strength of this story and we want this film to have a life. This project has been a dream come true and is the first of what we hope are many opportunities to create, collaborate and share the screen together. As we move into post production, we are reaching out to our dear family and friends, our long time supporters and inspirations, to see if you can spare any amount to help us finance the post production costs.
Your donation will go towards:
$ for a sound mix
$ for colour correction
$ for an additional 1 day shoot involving a deer farm (!)
$ for film festival submissions
$ equipment rentals
Our total post production budget is 3,000.
Whatever you can afford to contribute would be so deeply appreciated. There is truly, truly no amount too small.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
