My mom, Esther, was previously a passionate teacher/ Associate Professor of Psychology at Prince Georges Community College and a very active individual. She was a faculty mentor, a College Bowl team leader and led the Psychology Club before sustaining brain trauma and neck injuries from a car accident and a fall while gardening and loss of balance in the bathroom resulting in a fall which have left her with limited mobility and chronic nerve pain. We are working very hard to get disability for her (which is very lengthy and difficult process) and she is now without income since she is an unpaid employee / can't drive to work or walk very far and has run out of paid leave. She was recently diagnosed with Chronic Pain Syndrome, hyperparathyroidism and a degenrative joint disorder. These hinder her progress in therapy and have thus led her into severe depression since she cannot work and has very limited mobility. She is going to lose her home and all of our family members live paycheck to paycheck and are struggling with her insurance company to help pay her bills, find a in-home companion nurse and help her remain focused in physical and occupational therapy so that she may resume a semi-normal life. She desperately wants to resume teaching and has no money left in her savings. Your donation will help us pay the mortgage, some of her co-pays and the hourly rate for companion assistance for things she cant do yet like dress, make meals, household chores, open doors, etc. and help us maybe buy her a scooter or something so she can get around. We are hoping to have these funds available to use as soon as possible as the nursing and sub-acute rehab facility is trying to discharge her and send her home with minimal care and no money for expenses/food.
