Duo Vela's First International Tour

Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out our page! We are a flute and guitar ensemble called Duo Vela and we have plans to tour throughout Australia and New Zealand this summer.

Our Across the Seas Tour is our very first international tour and we are ecstatic. We began planning this tour about 8 months ago and have put so much time and effort into making it come alive. Now as we're getting nearer, we need a little bit of help to fully get there.

The Tour
We will be playing in various locations in and around Melbourne, Australia, including the beautiful Great Hall of the artist colony, Montsalvat.  

After Melbourne, we will travel north to Canberra for two performances- one in the modern High Court of AustraliaPhotograph courtesy of Peter Hislop

Heading further north, we will perform for the Sydney Guitar Society~

After coming back to Melbourne from Sydney, we will travel south either by boat or plane to the very bottom of Tasmania! (The closest we'll probably ever get to Antartica!) Here, we'll perform for the Hobart Guitar Society 

Off to New Zealand! We'll start out in Auckland
and then make our way down south to New Plymouth, and finally to Wellington where we'll perform for the guitar society. 

Money 1
We were very fortunate and blessed to have been discovered by an international arts company who will be covering costs for us to fly to China in May and then straight to Australia after a few concerts in Shanghai. If it weren't for those flights, we would not have been able to afford this Australian/NZ tour. Still, we need to cover our flight back as well as local travel.

The exchange rate with the Australian dollar means good things and bad things- 

The Good: the money you donate will go further. The US dollar is much stronger than the Australian dollar so any amount that you donate will be very helpful !!

The Bad: the fees that we are getting paid for concerts are in the weaker Australian dollar so our fees won't cover much for travel. 

Along with this- it is diffuclt to calculate exact costs. Many performances we are doing are donation based so we are a little in the dark with what our income will be as well as expenses. 

Money 2
We need this 1k to strictly go towards travel. Flights from New Zealand to home are very high (800/900 a ticket) and on top of that, we'll need to plan for rental cars/ gas, and possibly a local flight or two between cities to reach concerts in time. The 1k raised here certainly won't cover everything, but it will help greatly to offset travel expenses.

Just speaking for myself (Marla), I never would have dreamed that I'd be doing something this epic- getting to travel to the other side of the world to make music. And it's still hard to believe after 8 months of planning that this whole tour is actually possible.
