To all of our family and friends:
This is Doug Marcum's sister writing on behalf of Doug's immediate family. Please take a moment to read this story and help if you can.
Doug is a 48 year old every-day man who worked as a welder for 30 years and in December 2015 was diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney cancer that has metastasized to his spine, ribs, and lungs.
Doug has never spent a day in the hospital other than the day he was born. He now lives with me, my husband, and our teenage son. Doug is the father of two sons and the grandfather to five little ones ages 10, 8, 7, 5, and 2 years old.
Doug is a skilled master craftsman in every sense of the word and it has been very demoralizing for him not to be able to move around and work the way he used to do.
Because of the lesions on his vertebrae, Doug is now completely disabled and cannot work, drive, or live alone. His spine is basically crumbling and we are hoping that radiation and chemo help enough so that the neurosurgeon can bolster his spine by injection of "cement" or with metal plates and screws. He is in danger of total paralysis so we all hold our breath when he moves to stand, walk, or sit down.
Thankfully, Doug has insurance but there is a deductible to be met for 2015 and 2016 before chemotherapy treatments can begin. The funds received from this campaign will be used to pay medical expenses for both the deductibles and the co-pays. The bills are already rolling in so the need is urgent. Even the smallest amount helps us to reach our goal and you can make a difference.
This campaign means so much to the entire family because when someone so dear is diagnosed with a terminal illness the last thing that anyone wants or needs to worry about is all of the expenses. The goal is to enable quality of life so that Doug will be as comfortable as possible to enjoy visits from family and friends.
Thank you so much for your caring and prayers.
