Fundraiser for Derek Cruice's Mom

Derek Cruice was shot and killed by a Volusia County Deputy on March 4, 2015. 

While the circumstances of Derek's death are under investigation, to all who knew him, there is no inquiry necessary to establish the quality of Derek's character:

Derek was a loving, playful, honest and loyal person. His death was tragic, and marks a great loss for his friends and family.

This campaign exists to help Derek's mother pay his final expenses and any other expenses related to his death. The average funeral costs $7000, but I hope we can raise more. All proceeds will go directly to Derek's mother, Sheila, who authorized this fundraiser.

I know there is controversy surrounding Derek’s death. But we are all someone's son or daughter, and all of us have a mother.

I know that we all can agree that no parent should have to suffer the loss of her child, and that all of us would hope for the support of our friends, family, and community if our own mother were met with such a tragedy in her life.

It is in the spirit of that shared humanity that I post this and ask that you help Derek's mother. Thank you.
