Our story is a lengthy one. One year ago this beautiful woman found us on Facebook claiming to be our sister that we never knew we had.  Both our mother and father had already passed away so we were unable to ask them if it was possible. Well, we did DNA test and the results were shocking! As fate would have it, she turned out to be our full blooded sister! Same mother and father!  Today we are reaching out to all of our family and friends and those we may not even know because we are not ready to let Dawn go now.

On, 10/11/2016, Dawn went into the hospital thinking she had a bad case of the flu. After only a couple of hours she was quickly admitted into ICU.  Her temperature would not break no matter what the doctors tried. Her liver began to shut down and Dawn began to slip away. The doctors gave her 8 hours to show some kind of improvement before considering doing a liver transplant as a last resort to save her life. Her daughter was not ready to say goodbye to her mother so she sat awake in the hospital chair the entire night researching absolutely everything she could. Her daughter was exhausted and tired and was about to give up when she looked at her mom and laughed to herself. She laughed  that her mother was so convinced that this was all caused by the hair of a dog thinking perhaps she inhaled the hair and that’s what got her sick. Out of desperation her daughter began looking up everything she could about diseases and viruses that could be transferred from animals to humans. Thirty minutes before labs were to be drawn, which would determine the need for a transplant, she stumbled across an extremely rare virus called Q fever. She had all the signs and symptoms and most of all an undying love for animals. She was around animals of all walks every single day. After reading that Q fever is usually fatal if not treated immediately, she ran to the doctors and suggested this insane possibility of Q fever. To her amazement, the doctors actually decided to treat Dawn for Q fever. Shortly after starting the antibiotic Dawn’s fever finally broke after five days of a temperature running above 103 degrees. Dawn finally started showing signs of improvement!

Just when things started looking brighter the case manager walked in the room and informed Dawn that her insurance had lapsed since switching jobs. Dawn just so happen to fall ill in the interim of extending her previous insurance plan and before her new insurance plan took effect. This news hit eveeyone by shock. This is close everyone’s worst nightmare when it comes to the sudden need for extensive medical help. To have to worry about the care and/or cost of treatment to stay alive should not be something anyone has to worry about while fighting for their life.

She still has a long road to recovery and has good days and bad days but she is staying strong. We are asking all friends and family to help pray for the return of Dawn's health, to stay positive during this time and to help guide the physician’s hands and give them the knowledge on how to fight this. We are also asking all that those who are able to financially help with the medical cost Dawn will soon face that would be an enormous blessing. We just want her to concentrate on getting better and not worry if she will have a home to go to once this all gets figured out.  All money will go to Dawn’s medical expenses.

Thank you.
