If you know Dawn like I do, she is hating every minute of this! Dawn is extremely private and does not discuss her condition with anyone. She is not hiding it, she simply does not like the stigma involved with being "sick" or having a "disease." It has taken me 3 months to convince her to attempt this Go Fund Me campaign - trust me it was not easy!
Dawn has a genetic illness called Ataxia. It affects her muscles, balance and coordination. She experiences a range of symptoms from fatigue and weakness to muscle and joint pain.
Dawn attended the The Nanjing Hospital in Nanjing, China five years ago and received Stem Cell Therapy with fantastic results! The improvements it made to her life were outstanding! Improvements included, significant reduction in pain, restored balance, overall energy level increase and most importantly drastic improvement with mobility.
It is long overdue for Dawn to return to Asia for treatment. With the high cost of treatment it has taken her 5 years to pay off her first trip. This treatment will take place at the 'Better Being Hospital' in Bangkok, Thailand. The cost of treatment is $23,000 US. At today's exchange rate that is almost 28,000 Canadian! Thats not to mention flights, living expenses, lost wages and the 5-8% fee collected by GoFundMe.
My goal is to raise enough money to get Dawn the treatment she needs to improve the quality of her life. Yes, I know its a pretty big thing to ask of everyone, but if anyone deserves it, Dawn does. Through all the obstacles she has faced she remains strong, independent, and hard working. She is a local business owner and volunteer and is considering furthering her education in the fall. Above all, what brings Dawn the greatest amount of happiness is raising her amazing son Seth.
