I am 33 years old and currently going through my second different cancer battle in the past two years. I have been through so much and would of never been able to do this without Gods blessing and my wonderful support system of my friends and family.
On Thanksgiving Day 2012 I was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma(Bile duct cancer) out of nowhere. My doctor told me I had a 30% chance to live six months and it would be a struggle everyday. After talking to my doctor and family we decided it would be best to seek treatment at Emory hospital in Atlanta. I h
ad just started a new job and didn't qualify for insurance. So I had to resign my job and move to Atlanta in hopes of receiving a liver transplant before cancer consumed my other organs.
After arriving in Atlanta I was able to seek pre- existing insurance through the State of Georgia at a hefty premium to see a Doctor at Emory. After going through 30 radiation treatments and lengthy chemo doses I was able to be listed on the transplant list Aug 15. I received a liver on Chrismas Day 2013 and was blessed to have a second chance at life.
Recovery was a rough road and was delighted to be moving back to Texas and start my new life again. After 9 months in Texas I was once again in serious pain and came to see my doctors in Atlanta. After many scans and labs and a week in the hospital I was diagnosed with Post transplant lymphoma disorder. A rare form of Lymphoma that is caused by the antirejection medication I had to take so my body would accept the liver.
So I was forced to resign my job again and seek treatment in Atlanta. I recently finished the first chemo which was not successful and am about to start a very powerful chemo on April 6.
I have stayed very positive and tried to live a normal life through all of these rough times. I am asking for the expenses that my insurance doesn't cover to be able to fight this horrible disease. I am not able to work and have tried applying for grants and aid through foundations and haven't had any success.
My medication alone is $26,000 a month and while insurance does cover most of it they want me to have access to pay for this I case I was to lose my insurance. I am not looking to profit in this only to raise the money I need to survive and pay off the medical bills I occured before getting cancer. All money not used in this matter will be donated to the Georgia Transplant Foundation.
I want to personaly thank everyone who has said a prayer for me and for taking your time to read my story.
Even if you are not able to donate I ask that you keep me and everyone else who is going through this struggle in your thoughts and prayers. With Gods help and the kindness of great people we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
