David’s trip to Shanghai University

My name is David Ogumefu and I'm a Transition Year Student from Colaiste Treasa. I enjoy activities that involve learning about other countries, cultures and languages as it provides the opportunity to learn about people, interact with them and most importantly break down the boundaries of the unknown. Recently I was given the opportunity to Travel to China as part of the "Study in China: 2018 Easter Camp Programme for Ireland".
What is the activity?
The "Study in China: 2018 Easter Camp Programme " is a two-week program in Shanghai. It is jointly organized by the University College Cork (UCC)Confucius Institute, Irish Institute of Chinese Studies (University College Cork) and Shanghai University and is sponsored by the Headquarters of Confucius Institute (Hanban). It provides an opportunity for non-Chinese students in Irish second level schools to visit China and learn its language and Culture.
Why do I want to do this?
Apart from learning the language I would love to go as I've always loved learning about different cultures. I often take part in youth programmes as I am a member of “YouthsRule”, a youths club based in Cork. I have participated in various youth cultural programs in Cork county. I have also attended a nine day youth cultural programme in Spain as part of a “European Cultural Exchange Programme”. China has been one of those places where I wanted to go as a child and now the opportunity is right around the corner. This is something that I just can't let slip by (and it'll make my diary have a lot more content^^).
How can you help?
The program will be taking place from the 23rd of March 2018 to the 4th of April 2018. I hope to raise €2000 to help pay for the flight to Shanghai and other expenses while I'm staying in China. Feel free to donate as much as you're willing to, there's no minimum or maximum.
