Darrin Hart's Fight Against Cancer

Meet Darrin Hart. Darrin is a 49 year old Special Education Technician at Gorham High School in Gorham, Maine. He is battling a recurrence of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He had treatment at The Brigham & Women's Hospital and The Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He received treatment in these facilities for 6 to 8 weeks. He is now receiving a new treatment at Maine Med. Because these initial 'fights' took place last Falland Winter, Darrin has used a all of his allotted sick days. He has no more insurence bennefits for the new round of treatments.






Needless to say, Darrin's medical costs will be astronomical! Our school community has donated its maximum amount of sick days to support him. Because of his necessity to recuperate from an arduous treatment regimen, Darrin will miss work for an undetermined amount of time. These absences will result in a loss of income. In fact, he will be out long enough that he will likely lose his benefits. Without the financial contributions of family, friends and colleagues, Darrin could lose everything.




Darrin's primary responsibilities involve teaching basic life skills to students with developmental disabilities. He does this job especially well. He is beloved and respected by his students, as well as his colleagues. He is a humble and fiercely private man. He is undeniably independent and reluctant to ask for help.
