Tragic July 4th, 16 with Fireworks

Like most people, I never truly realized the dangers of fireworks until Monday July 4th 2016 at 11 P.M. when it hit home. Today is my brother Donny’s birthday, we should be celebrating, but instead he’s lying in a hospital bed. Donny always loved to celebrate Fourth of July with fireworks, it was his way of also celebrating his birthday. Every year I looked forward to July 4th, being with family. Unfortunately, this year would be the last of our July 4th celebrations, because Donny was a trauma patient on that day from a fireworks injury resulting in losing his left hand and sustaining major blast injuries to both his eyes and ears leaving him visually impared and hard of hearing. He will be in the hospital for two to three weeks or even months. He is in his third surgery today but will still need several more surgeries and a lot of healing. This whole week my family and I have been living a nightmare.
Donny is coureageous; with our help he will be able to overcome this obstacle. This tragedy will be re-written by his ability to help others avoid similar injuries and become aware of the dangers of fireworks. His recovery will certainly be difficult. However, with your support, he will be able to better afford his long financial, physical, and emotional recovery.
