ABOUT nzoCALIFA DANCESTORY:
I've been "washed" into a a benevolent network of African-Ancestored Societies with a shared mission that rises above mystical "brick walls" adding a mighty forest of leaves to an  insurmountable number of Family trees.          Tenacious development of my own Family research ushered by my maternal grandparents in 1996, planted a seed of destiny that'd further strengthen Ancestral ties.  As a Professional Teaching Artist specializing in African Diaspora Dance, Drum and Cultural traditions, I creatively incorporate these historical elements into my Dance-building platforms of service - nzo.califa Dance Works. Today #Dancestory2015 bears a repository of Community Family Histories and narratives collected from nearly 50 leading and willing agents, including Master Teachers and Cultural Gatekeepers, who've captured at least 2-3 generations of their Family line.

                        PROJECT SUMMARY UPDATES

#Dancestory2015 - Whose Do You Belong?!
Challenging Bay Area #Dance and #Drum agents to unearth their Ancestral lines and share their story, invoking a national dialogue amongst African Diaspora Cultural keepers and stewards to make the connection and learn more about their story through their Ancestor's walk.
#Dancestory2015 faciliated the sojourn of at least 20 Dance and Drum agents "Workingdalines "
involving candid conversations about "broken lines", taboo subjects of transgenerational effect to cherished Family legacies of historical discourse concerning the Transatlantic slave trade and the United States Domestic slave trade, while charting the migratory patterns of Family members giving invaluable insight of how "Family" came to be.
I've further committed to spending focused research combing archives, documents and collecting heirlooms of stories shared from actual Family first visits. With my own Family map in hand, I venture to travel to actual Historical sites and towns where my maternal/paternal #Louisiana Ancestors lived, built their lives and perhaps left a standing legacy.
I'll research historical benchmarks in the area giving me inference of the times and how my Ancestors lived.  And along the way I plan to drop-in [ invited of course ] and visit Commune+Unity kinfolks along the way of Louisiana heritage -- on the rite track, sojourn with me.

#WhatsGoodWed - Honoring Ancestral Gatekeepers, for it is the Season of Odunde and Ancestral rites in motion. Most recently in my #Dancestory2015 trek, I was awakened by a gentle nudge from my Ancestral Gatekeeper, my Grandfather, whose wisdom read the meditations of my heart at the crossroads, consoling me in my quandary. Yet it is the presence of his LOVE that reminds me of how I got started in Family History by creating his first booklet.

Today I am privy #workingdalines with good folks beyond the Bay, discovering Ancestor pathways including exciting places like Martinique, Puerto Rico or even clarifying "that white person's" country of origin like Germany, England or Scotland - dare I?! I just DID! lol - I am dedicated to unearth ourstory -- demystifying Ancestral histories allowing US to run and tell THAT of our very own. I've attached a Family Tree chart, to inspire you to begin or continue. Need inspiration?! Feel free to follow my working notes - https://workingdalines.wordpress.com or read the updates and contact me via #Dancestory2015 campaign.

We thank the many nzoCALIFA #Dancestory sojourners along the way for your gracious offerings of support and WE welcome your continued presence. Did I say WE?! Of course!!! At this point, what I do is clearly made possible with the many here and beyond. I am truly grateful for it.

#SumSOL2015 - I am writing, wRiting as fast as I can. Finished Community-Arts building immersions, Spiritual bootcamps, all-night research sessions and 24-hour sewing projects--My sojourn is in the anchor leg of #Dancestory2015. First highlights so far: Working in kinship with New Orleans African-Ancestored Artists of #RhythmicAlchemy via Nfungotah, Inc. a monumental undertaking giving rize and revival to the Spirit of Arts mediumships surpassing media-frenzied stigmas and setting historical benchmarks like Congo Square at midnite! Sunday Soul sessions with Elder-statefolks and Commune+unity of Congo Square , Dance, Drum, Culture and #Kimble kinship; 4-direction salute by Coco, Chief of the Houma Indians right in the space where their historical field harvest was celebrated. And in that same spot, we participated in a cleansing ritual and released them worries, woes and festerings to burrrrn. A'dupe Baba Luther, and Mama Jamilah. WAAAH to the Spiritual Mothers/Leaders of Congo Square. Hail up the Paul Guerra Studio/ Summer Artist Residency: work-create-[Wo]manifest *ting*.

Thank you to the special collection of Family surnames shared with me from convo-exchange, giving inference to the what makes New Orleans special, leading to unique intersections among community kin, all on a powerful Monday-- Ire'o Golden Feather. Brass Bands, red beans and rice, African collard greens, last Summer eating shrimp poboys [yeeesh] & Mami Mississippi...to my Ancestors, at every turn, you let it be seen, told and heard - I'm on the rite track and those Elders that blessed me with incantations.

Working to get to where my Father was born, where my Grands owned land - never been there, not too far. If you know anything about Track&Field and I've been a runner for over 17 years of my life, that last leg is EVERYTHING and more with intentional support. Check in on how much we've gained as I've sprinkled much information upon my platforms on Facebook, and blog. Ask questions and DO share a good word or three. ;)
Walk well, and a Happy Odunde, Egun Season, Harvest for us all.

Loving life and you immensely,
