On October 1, 2015 my nephew DJ was diagnosed with X-Linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). DJ is an energetic 10 year old boy handed a death sentence. However, because he was diagnosed early he started his life saving Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) process on March 9, 2016 at Shands in Gainsville, FL. The whole family needs support and prayers. This was set up to help support finanicially, to supplement medical & living expenses. Rachel (DJ's Mom/My Sister) will be traveling back and forth to Shands while our Mom (Mom Mom) stays most of the time so Rachel can still work.

What is ALD?
Adrenoleukodystrophy, or ALD, is an x-linked metabolic disorder, characterized by progressive neurologic deterioration due to demyelination of the cerebral white matter. Brain function declines as the protective myelin sheath is gradually stripped from the brain’s nerve cells. Without that sheath, the neurons cannot conduct action potentials—in other words, they stop telling the muscles and other elements of the central nervous system what to do. ALD is a deadly genetic disease that affects 1 in 18,000 people. It most severely affects boys and men. As this brain disorder destroys myelin, it knows no racial, ethnic or geographic barriers. Today, there is no cure :(
