Destination Imagination DIYs

We are raising funds to compete in the Destination Imagination Global Finals on May 23-26, 2018 in Knoxville, Tennessee.  After placing first at the California State Championship, we would love to travel to Knoxville to complete against the top teams from around the world.

We are a co-ed team of fifth grade students from the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the only LAUSD team competing at the Global Finals.  We call ourselves the "DIYs."

Destination Imagination  is a worldwide organization that teaches  students creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges.  Our team chose the "Service Learning" Challenge and focused on homeless pet owners in California.  Our goal was helping homeless pet owners by providing food and supplies for the animal to make sure the owner has companionship.

The Destination Imagination competition is in two parts.  First, we performed a prepared skit about our chosen Challenge.  Second, we were given an "Instant Challenge" which is either performance or building based -- we don't know which until that exact moment.  During the Instant  Challenge our team has to pull together and collaborate creatively to produce the best outcome in the given time.  It is really exciting!

We estimate our costs to compete in the Global Finals to be $2000 per team member which includes registration, boarding and airfare.

We appreciate any help you can provide our DIYs team.  Thank you!
