My brother, Curtis, suffered a stroke just before Thanksgiving. While undergoing testing to determine the cause of his stroke, they discovered a tumor on his spine, called Myxopapillary Ependymona. He has suffered severe back pain for a long time, but attributed it to a broken neck he suffered during a motor cycle accident 15 months ago. Discovering the tumor answered many questions as to why his pain has lingered so long after he healed from his accident. Now that he has been diagnosed, he must undergo surgery to remove the tumor. If the surgery is successful, he will be off work for 8 weeks for recovery, longer if they have to sever the nerve to remove the tumor. Curt does not have medical or disability insurance to help him through this difficult time. I am hoping to raise enough funds to cover the cost of his surgery, as well as his living expenses during his recovery period. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

Curt is doing very well this week. His pain level is down to a point of discomfort instead of pain, this is a huge improvement over the incredible pain he has been in for almost two years. We met with his oncologist on Thursday of last week and received great news, the tumor was benign!

Unfortunately, his iron is still low so he has to go back in a month to have it rechecked. Hopefully he can tolerate the iron pills better now that he is on less meds from the surgery. If he can't get his iron up by next month, they'll have to do IV iron to get it up.

He goes back to his spine surgeon on Friday, he's hoping to be cleared to drive again and go back to work on light duty. He's anxious to get back to his apartment and get his life moving again. The doctor originally told him to expect an 8 week recovery, so I'm not sure the doctor is going to clear him yet, but he is doing really well, so we'll see what he says on Friday.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped him during this difficult time. We are almost through this difficult time. He needs help with his April insurance payment and his April rent to get him through until he starts getting a paycheck again. Any help Is greatly appreciated by him and by me. For me personally, it has been overwhelming how many people have reached out to help, some of you who know and love Curt and some of you who know and love me and want to help him solely because of your love for me. It means so much to me.

It was a tough week in Curt's recovery this week. He is staying at Mom and Dad's house so they can take care of him until he's stronger. Pain management has been his biggest struggle this week, trying to find a balance between dulling the pain but not having side effects from the meds. Sleeping is not coming easily because of the pain and he can't take his Ambien because it reacts with his pain meds (trust me on this, he tried it, doesn't work, don't do it). He went back to the doctor Tuesday to have his bandage changed. Then he went back on Friday for them to remove the clamps from his incision site. That was not a fun process for him, or for me to watch, a sharp pointy device digging at those clamps over a still healing incision is not cool. They're out now though and his incision site seems to be healing well, so that's good. He is walking on his own, without the walker, he just has to move carefully so he doesn't twist or turn and cause a spasm. He goes back to the doctor in two weeks for his next checkup, then he'll have another month of healing and rehab before he can be cleared to return to work. Mom has paid his rent again so he doesn't lose his apartment, but she can't continue for much longer. He'll need help for April's rent and April's health insurance premium, hopefully after that, he'll be cleared to return to work and can get back to taking care of himself again. Please share his story, any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much to everyone who has already helped and given him love and encouragement. It means a great deal to him and to me.

Curt's doing very well today! They have him out of bed, sitting in a chair. The physical therapist came and worked with him in the chair and then got him up walking a bit with a walker. The getting up and down is painful but once he's up, he's pretty steady. His recovery is going the absolute best we could have hoped for, so thankful!

They just took us back to see him, we saw the doctor briefly, the surgery was successful, they removed the entire tumor. He's moving his toes and talking to us a bit. He's going to sleep now, he has to lay completely flat for 24hrs, then we'll see where his movement is, but it seems great so far!
