Compassion for Cozy

Cozy was found as a stray in Norwich, CT on May 14, 2016. She was not claimed and had massive mammary tumors that touched the ground when she walked (see our FB photos as GoFundMe does not allow "graphic" photos- www.Facebook.com/ctdrps )
On Wednesday May 18th the shelter did X-rays on the the tumors and posted the following update:
"5-18-16 Update
The vet says that this dog needs a radical mastectomy or in other words the removal of all of her mammary glands. The three X-rays did not show that the two masses had spread beyond the mammary glands. The vet mentioned that this surgery is not easy as the dog does not have enough skin left to close the surgical wound. The tumors will drag on the ground when the dog walks so leaving them in place is not optimal."
After that update they asked us if we could take her and Anne was there a few hours later, and home with Cozy in her bed later that night. On Thursday May 19th she went to our vet for an exam and bloodwork ($105). The bloodwork is not perfect, but not overly alarming at this point either.
On Friday May 20th Cozy had just over 2 hours of surgery to remove her tumor riddled right mammary chain. She has over 100 sutures. We have had other females have both mammary chains removed before due to tumors, however Cozy's are the lathes we have dealt with. She seems to be doing well in spite of the radical mastectomy! She also had several teeth pulled today that were extremely loose. She I s on pain meds, antibiotics and strict rest. The next possible surgery, to remove the left mammary chain and tumors, will be in two weeks if she is doing well.
Cozy will be available for adoption after her surgeries. She is approximately 8 years old and VERY sweet. If you may be interested in adopting Cozy please apply online at www.ctdrps.com
