Honoring Coach Liebmann & Guerin

Donation protected

Coach Liebmann and Coach Guerin were so instrumental in building an unbelievable culture at Johnson Creek High School and in the Football program.  They devoted so much time and energy toward molding student athletes and helped so many reach their potential.  The fruits of their labor came during the 1978 football season when they led the Johnson Creek Blue Jays to an undefeated Conference Championship in the Eastern Suburban Conference and made it to the Semi Finals of the State Tournament!  So many memories and so much excitement during that year was shared by everyone in our school and our community.

2017 was a very difficult year for the Johnson Creek community as we lost these two unbelievable men who served as educators, coaches and mentors to so many young men and women that walked the halls of Johnson Creek High School.  Coach Gary Guerin and Coach Don Liebmann both passed in the same year.  The losses were devastating to their families and to our community.

To honor both of these great men we will be creating a commemorative tribute with custom plaques at the entrance of the Johnson Creek football field that will feature their pictures and their contributions to the Johnson Creek school and community.  We will be unveiling these commemorations on Friday, September 7th when Johnson Creek plays host to Cambria Friesland.   In order to make this possible we are hoping to raise $10,000.  Anything extra will go towards the Johnson Creek Football Program.  We are asking that you find it in your heart to give generously to help make this tribute and this night a very special night for the families of these very special men that gave so much to the Johnson Creek community!!

Please plan on joining us on September 7 for this memorable evening!

More about these outstanding men:

Coach Gary Guerin

Coach Gary Guerin passed away unexpectedly on January 30th, 2017 in his home in Venice, Florida at the age of 72.  Coach Guerin began his teaching career at Johnson Creek upon graduating from Northeast Missouri State College in 1967.  He was hired at Johnson Creek as a Social Studies teacher and coached football, wrestling, and track where he stayed until 1987 when he was selected as the principal at Iowa Grant High School.  He made such an impact on so many of the students that walked the halls of Johnson Creek High School throughout his years there.  Most memorably as a football coach.  When hired at Johnson Creek he knew he had a huge task ahead of him of building a program.  He put his heart and soul into the program and reaped the fruits of his labor with an undefeated Conference Championship and a trip to the state playoffs in 1978.  It was a season that so many will never forget.  Coach Guerin also coached wrestling and track and had much success in those sports.  Coach Guerin sent many individuals to the state wrestling championships.

Coach Guerin is survived by his wife Cinda; his daughters Kerrie (husband David Wolf) and Kali King, along with grandchildren Christopher Wolf, Natilee Wolf, and Seaver King.

Coach Don Liebmann

Coach Don Liebmann found eternal peace on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 following a brief illness at the age of 65.  Coach Liebmann was hired by the Johnson Creek school district right after graduating from Carrol College in 1974.  He stayed with the district until his retirement from teaching and coaching in 2008.  While at Johnson Creek, Coach Liebmann taught in the elementary school and coached various High School and Junior High sports throughout the years.  Coach received Teacher of the Year honors during his time at Johnson Creek.  He was very instrumental in building the Johnson Creek football program in the late 70’s.  Together, Coach Guerin and Coach Liebmann brought the program to a new level and the pinnacle was the 1978 season!!!

Coach was very active throughout his life.  It was not a secret that he loved the outdoors and spent so much of his life making wonderful memories for his daughter, grandchildren and so many of his friends.  Coach was involved with the Oakland Conservation Club, Wisconsin Conservation Club, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and the Cooksville Lutheran Dartball team.  He was a certified Wisconsin Hunter Safety Instructor and Bow Hunter Safety Instructor.  No matter what Coach Liebman was involved with, he did it with love and passion and made sure the people around him shared that same love and passion.

Coach Liebmann is survived by his wife Margaret and his two daughters Megan (Nick) McCoy and Melissa (Eric) Woolridge and five grandchildren Cole, Anna, Emma, Briella and Gavin.  Coach treasured every moment he spent with his grandchildren, at baseball games, dance recitals or nights out fishing!!  Words cannot express how much he is missed and loved by his family and all of his friends.
