Send 4 Girls to NY for Black Girls Rock Conference

4 Girls from Clarksdale, Mississippi are seeking to attend the 2019 Black Girls Rock! LEAD Conference in New York City. LEAD is a five-day residential conference for girls ages 13-17 from July 28-August 2, 2019. Accepted participants have the opportunity to engage in culturally relevant pedagogy, enhance their civic awareness, develop their leadership skills and foster a global sisterhood in a safe and welcoming environment. This summer intensive features a series of panels, lectures, and workshops designed to fortify critical thinking, entrepreneurship, social awareness, financial literacy, college preparation, professional goals, creativity, and more.
For these girls, this is huge! As their 7th grade English teacher and sponsor, Ms. Arnelle Williams from Brooklyn, NY, I have had the pleasure of watching these girls become passionate about the issues they care about in their communities. The beneficiaries --A'keirah, Jusmenda, Kalynn, De'shana, Ma'kyia, and Jakilah are my students. They are brilliant writers and speakers, and a true force to be reckoned with.
As their sponsor and teacher, I will be traveling with them to the girls leadership conference. I will be withdrawing the funds in my name and into my own personal bank account. Since each girl is a minor, I will be fully responsibility for how the funds are spent to ensure that the girls have this enriching this experience. I will manage and budge accordingly to fit the needs for each girl, since they are my responsibility.
Please invest in them as they aim to take their leadership skills to the next level.
Important Note: If the girls are not accepted into the conference, all funds will go toward scholarships for the girls, so that they will be able to participate in other educational leadership activities such as college readiness programs or entrepreneurship workshops.

The money raised will cover the costs per Girl:
There is a mandatory application fee of $25
Mandatory housing fee of $1000
Round-trip plane tickets $475
Deadline to submit funds is July 6th!
