Claire’s memorial and expense fund

Dear family and friends, it is with deep sorrow to inform you that our beloved mother Claire passed away on the early morning of Friday April 13, 2018. Claire had been silently battling stage 3B lung cancer, a condition she that was diagnosed with a mere 6 months ago. It was my mother’s wish to keep her illness private.

Our mother had previously overcome stage 4 breast cancer and we were optimistic that she would she would also survive this terrible diagnosis.

In spite of her condition, Claire was optimistic and vowed to fight her lung cancer. She never once complained about her illness and always maintained a strong faith in God.

She completed her daily chemo and radiation therapies while always maintaining her energetic and positive attitude. If she did not inform you that she was sick, you would have no idea that she was ill.

Unfortunately, her condition did not improve. In the last month she began to experience a shortness of breath that we hoped was just a side effect of her medication.

In the following weeks the debilitating symptoms did not improve. She would constantly awaken in the middle of the night due to violent coughing. She was no longer able to sleep laying down, and we would wake up in the middle of the night to find her sitting up gasping for air.

Everyday tasks that she used to be able to accomplish with ease became impossible. She could no longer walk effortlessly and would have to rest after a few steps to catch her breath.
As the days progressed she would also lose the ability to speak, due to the demand of oxygen it required.

Eventually we obtained oxygen tanks to help her breathe at home to ease her difficulties. Unfortunately, this effort proved futile as she collapsed on April 13 in the morning.

Fortunately, my brother Andre was awake and able to be with her in her final moments. Andre made every effort to sustain her life , but in a matter of minutes she was gone. She took her last breath in Andre’s arms as he waited for first responders to arrive.

The first responders made made every effort to save Claire. They attempted to save her life for over 30 minutes, but there was simply nothing more they could do. It was our mother’s time to go and we will miss her tremendously.

If you knew Claire, then you know she was always ready and eager to go out an enjoy life. If presented with an invitation to go on any type of an adventure,  she would almost certainly accept.

As most of you already know, our mother was extremely energetic, kind, friendly, generous, feisty and yet compassionate. She would always try her best to make anyone she met feel like part of her family.

My brother and I have set up this gofundme account to assist in the upcoming memorial, funeral, and medical expenses that we are set to incur.

Any contribution that you can make will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult and tumultuous time.
