Cierra Jennings’ Breast Cancer Fund

$12,285 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 132 people in 13 months
The Jennings are a homeschooling family of seven, soon to be eight.

Cierra and Fitz are celebrating 10 years of marriage this June.

Fitz is a business agent with the UFCW 1000, and Cierra stays at home to homeschool and care for the kiddos while running a small business with Usborne Books & More on the side.

They have one girl and four boys, ages 8, 7, 5, 4, and 2, and have another sweet girl coming in October.

On May 4th Cierra was diagnosed with triple negative, stage 2 grade 3 breast cancer.

The pregnancy is an added complication, but should not change the projected treatment too much.

Although they have one good income, it will not be sufficient for all of the extra needs they will have coming up.

Putting the kids in some kind of school will now likely be necessary, medical travel expenses, childcare, and help with housework are just some of the extra expenses they can foresee.

It’s not always easy to reach out for financial help, but it’s a great and easy way for us to show our support for her and her family as they navigate this time in their life.

All donations are very welcome as well as prayers.

Hi friends! A quick update for you all as I’ve been getting many questions via text and messenger.

Many of you may not know that, shortly after my diagnosis, I had genetic testing done and I tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation. This mutation makes me 80% more likely to get breast cancer (hello, breast cancer at 32), and 60% more likely to get ovarian cancer. There are other cancer risks associated with this as well—prostate and male breast cancer for men, uterine, colon, and pancreatic, but they’re not nearly as high of a risk as breast and ovarian. You might remember Angelina Jolie having a prophylactic mastectomy and hysterectomy a few years back, this was because she tested positive for this same gene mutation.

What this means for me—it means that even though chemo worked like gang busters, and my tumor disintegrated during treatment and all my scans are completely clear of malignancies, I still have to have a double mastectomy and, at some point in the fairly near future, a hysterectomy.

My mastectomy is this coming Wednesday, January 2nd. They will perform a sentinel lymph node biopsy during the surgery as well to be sure nothing has spread into my lymph nodes. I will be completely unable to care for my children for four-six weeks following the surgery so a lot of help will be necessary. Thank god for my mother. Please keep us all in your prayers. Specifically we ask that you pray for there to be no cancer in my lymph nodes and that I have a quick healing process with little pain. Also pray for the sanity and well being of my babies and husband who bear so much through all this.

Back to the medical grind today, but now with a baby in tow. ❤️ CT and then a bone scan to check for possible metastasis. Prayers are needed for clear scans.

Sitting here at 4am and I cannot sleep, so I figured I should update Facebook! The Jennings are having a pretty rough time of it, to be honest. We’re getting ready for baby who comes in just two weeks! We have to induce to time between my treatments so we’ll be in the hospital for this birth. My chemo treatments will start back a week after she’s born, and I will have treatments every week for 12 weeks. Obviously not particularly looking forward to this, but I can see an end in sight.

This last week has been extremely difficult because Fitz has developed shingles and because of my low immunity, the doctors have been concerned about me contracting Chicken pox from it which could be potentially deadly to the baby. So we’re doing everything we can to minimize my exposure (like me sleeping on the couch, and being wide awake at 4am)
I did get a weekend with my sister!

Headed to Houston for my fourth and final round of chemo before the baby comes then I’ll have 12 rounds of taxol. I can see the finish line; just in time for Christmas.
