Christmas at Potter's Village

Akwaaba everyone, my name is Jayde and I am 19 years old originally from Texas, but now living in Florida!! Currently I am on my seventh week out of sixteen weeks (four months) volunteering at a youth home in Ghana through a program called IVHQ - International Volunteer Headquarters. Located in a village called Dodowa, Potter's Village houses over 100 youth ranging from 2 years old to 22 years old. These children are usually ones who come from abusive backgrounds who need a place to feel safe. Although these kids struggle with internal struggles, as well as, external ones, they all possess such an amazing soul. Their smiles are contagious and their energy is enough to light every bulb in the world. Since it is Christmas time, the children have been strutting around singing holiday tunes and getting excited to see what they'll receive for Christmas this year. Each of us volunteers who are currently here and past volunteers are looking to raise money in order to put on a spectacular celebration of not only Christmas, but the work they have put in all year in school and helping around the home to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The celebration will include food, decorations, singing  and, best of all, PRESENTS!!! Soon we will be scurrying about buying essentials for them, as well as, some fun things to see their faces light up. Some of the gifts they will be receiving are sandals, toothbrushes, stickers and even new shirts. Unfortunately, receiving packages here is a long and difficult process that previous and current volunteers have struggled to complete successfully. Due to this I would like to ask that any family or friends who have contacted me to send items or have been inquiring on what they can do to please donate here. Any kind of monetary value goes a very long way here, so do not feel as if you have to sell any organs to make a difference. Being here has been an incredible experience and I have never met anyone who is as worthy to be celebrated and spoiled than these children.
