Chicago Nuns Need Heat
$157,044 of $150k goal
A fraternity of Chicago nuns desperately needs your help. The sisters of Fraternite Notre Dame in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood have no heating right now during Chicago’s coldest time of year. Their boilers broke and they were told it would take $40,000 for repairs. Since we first launched this GoFundMe, contractors have told the Sisters that their boilers cannot be repaired and must be replaced. A new system could cost them as much as $200,000. These are nuns who selflessly feed 200 homeless people each and every day and right now they are staying warm using only 4 space heaters. Even the Holy Water in the church has frozen. Sister Marie-Valerie says, “We have faith in God” that someone will help. ABC 7 Chicago's daily talk show, “Windy City LIVE,” launched this page help to keep these nuns warm during these historic low temperatures. You have respondeded generously, but more help is needed. Each church of the archdiocese operates independently, so these Sisters very much need our help. Please donate what you can.
The folks at GoFundMe have asked us to provide the following information:
1. Who you are - WLS-TV, ABC 7 Chicago, Windy City LIVE
2. Where you're from - Chicago, of course!
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for - We have volunteered to raise funds for the sisters.
4. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible) - As outlined, the funds will be used for a new boiler system for their church and home.
5. How you intend to get the funds to those in need - We are meeting with the Sisters on Monday, Feb 23, and will show them how to withdraw funds so they can make the improvements they need.
Please note: In order for this GoFundMe to be listed in the search, I must connect it to a personal page. I am the Senior Producer of "Windy City LIVE." If you have questions, send a message through this page. Thank you!

Broke??????? they are NOT broke!!!! They are scammers!!!!! And all of you who helped them just got scammed!!!!!! If they were SO broke, how in sam hell were they able to purchase a ton of land in Marengo IL?????? And now they're even expanding. What a joke. Unreal.
Can you let us know how it all went....any update? Is the new heating system installed? Any funds left over? What was the final cost? Thanks.
Can every please help me too, its fpr my twins boys and me. You can search my gofund me campaign please i do not have many supporters
I'm Surprised that the poor nuns sleeping in freezing rooms....so cold the holy water froze, couldn't receive a little help from the Fraternite's seamlessly endless amount of funds. You see I own a home in Marengo across the street from the multi million dollar estate where "His Excellency Bishop Jean Marie" Resides. Well over a million dollars in real estate purchases in the last couple years. Perhaps instead of letting those poor nuns freeze "His Excellency" could've dipped into the money slated to develop the land he is currently proposing re-zoning with Mc Henry County. http://mchenrycountyil.iqm2.com/Citizens/Detail_Meeting.aspx?ID=3384 You see sometimes things are not what they seem.
I have been trying to raise money for an indoor bathroom for my 72 year old mother. I dont know if im doing something wrong with my campaign or just people dont care. Any advice would be appreciated.
congrats on raising the money, wish I could have helped, I do know what it is like to go without heat, we had to try and stay warm with space heaters too, blessings
I think helping this people is a good thing.wish someone could give me some pointers to raising some money for my cause. And to anyone that would criticize people that selflessly put their own lives on hold do they can help others get theirs back.no matter your religion sit down and think about that.
So wonderful to see that nobody will go cold during their harsh winter thankful for less stuffering of others. Hoping for a miracle with my daughter Arianna's campaign. Blessings:)
Does anyone know how much their roof repairs will cost?
I give thanks to our Lord for the success of this campaign. I think it is very sad that some folks will not help but will eagerly criticize and find fault. It is better to not even voice your opinion; just simply don't help and leave it alone!! You don't have power or control of where people choose to give their money or for what cause and you surely can't stop them! You should be able to see the amount of money donated to this cause in just four days is clear evident that your negative opinion is meaningless. I'm not Catholic and I certainly don't envy the good works of those who are...another very sad point, I think, as in some posts here, is for anyone to label another and resort to name calling. People are not "idiots" just because they don't think and believe as you or even share your concepts and views of another person; it is so wrong of you to do that!!!! We are all here and none is better than the other. May our Lord bless this organization and may they continue in their work.
There are so many good people in the world as evidenced by such generous donations to these precious nuns.
All the negative posters on here I hope you feel better talking a bunch of smack about catholic nuns I am sure you're probably all Obama voters idiots each and everyone !!?
The boiler system in a building this size with piping and radiator replacement , upgrades could easily exceed 200,000 dollars and don't forget about asbestos removal, permits etc.
Happy for them God bless the My sister in law started one for my daughter Leah Santiago. Hopping it for a miracle on her behalf.
So much raised for a heater how can I get help with getting donation for my sick son who needs surgery. I don't get it please help
So they can make that much in 3 days and I can't even get a penny
$200,000 for a new heater?
Wishing you all the best with your campaign. I want make a donation NOW, but just need to wait until Friday to do it. One of my friends Teddy has a campaign he is running, so I know it's a very tough hill to climb. God Bless & Good Luck to you! Rhonda M.
Someone below wrote that this group is not affiliated with the Archdiocese and the Vatican. However, this group does do good work and DOES run this soup kitchen. It is considered a "Traditional Order", meaning that it is one of many Catholic groups that doesn't believe in the changes of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). It appears that they are very legitimate in doing work for the poor; not just in Chicago, but in several places in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraternit%C3%A9_Notre-Damea
