Support for Charlotte Ortiz and Her Family.
We are seeking support for the Ortiz family as they care for Charlotte. This family has touched so many lives through the kindness and service they share personally and professionally. First and foremost they have asked for prayer through these challenges. One practical way we can help is to contribute to their needs through financial donations.
Until January 15th Charlotte was a hardworking outgoing Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard in her 21st year. Her family has dedicated a combined 83 years of service in the United States Air Force. Her position and personality have given her the opportunity to care for many other service members throughout the state of Ohio. Charlotte is also a loving wife, mother and friend. She makes time to serve in her church and community. That all changed when Charlotte had some alarming physical symptoms. Through multiple tests and surgery doctors discovered cancer.
Charlotte Ortiz was diagnosed with Extramedullary Granulocytic Sarcoma with Central Nervous System (CNS) involvement. This is a rare aggressive form of cancer. It is so rare that a portion of her treatment has been denied by her insurance. Her current treatment involves a drug called Mekinist. While chemo kills and shrinks the cancer, this stops the mutation that creates this cancer. She was blessed with a 30 day supply an out of state doctor donated, but going forward that treatment will cost $11,250 every 30 days.
Charlotte is currently paralyzed from the waist down. Through rehabilitation she is learning to eat and speak again. She is also learning to use her body in new ways to gain enough independence to return home. The new physical challenges require many wheel chair accessible home modifications. John is currently taking an unpaid leave of absence to care for Charlotte and their family. While they are seeking support through several programs there will be many out of pocket expenses.
