Charles Durrah's Cancer Journey

Donation protected
Life has it's way to taking you on journey's and so does cancer. Sometimes cancer chooses you, sometimes a sibling, a mother, a father, or even a friend. Cancer has chosen Charles Durrah on it's journey.

My very dear friend and former student Charles Durrah at a very young age is at a turmoil in his life. While living life as a college student, one day his life was drastically changed. He was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer this past summer.  For those of you who know him, you know that he is the most caring, giving and just an all-around extraordinary human being.  In his journey to helping others, he has always lived by the motto he adopted after his mother was murdered, "If I can help somebody, as I travel along. If I can help somebody, with a word or song. If I can help somebody, from doing wrong. No, my living shall not be in vain." - Mahalia Jackson

Charles has been dedicating his life for the last decade to helping others and he has helped with campaigning on many political ventures from Sanford Bishop to Mayor Teresa Tomlinson of Columbus to Mayor Dorothy Hubbard of Albany. Charles is an alumni of Shaw High School, Columbus, Georgia, and a current Albany State University Student in Albany, Georgia. He is studying to become a lawyer so that he may help others and seek justice for those who have experienced an injustice.

But his dreams are having to wait while he has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. He has been thinking that he could continue to do it all on his own. He works at his local Publix in order to pay for his living expenses, but the expenses are becoming too great. He did not want to seek help but without the help of others, he will be in a financial bind as his medical and living expenses begin to pile up. Some days he is very weak but he still tries to work. He is cheerful, loving, unbelievably strong and he always puts his friends and family before himself.

Tests show that his cancer cell count is extremely high and now surgery has been scheduled for next week. Because of this surgery, he will not be able to work. He will not likely be able to work for a couple of months. He needs to concentrate on fighting cancer instead of worrying about his living expenses and medical expenses.

Charles is a very strong and selfless person. Although Charles is in the greatest battle of his life, he still dedicates his time to helping the needy and the homeless in his community, working on various campaigns, and working closely with the United Way. He dedicates his time to anyone else that is in need.

I feel that it is time to show this strong and helpful individual the love that he has always shown to others. We will appreciate anything that you can donate. You can only imagine how stressful it has been on him as a college student to continue his studies, work, volunteer, and undergo chemo and radiation. The donations will be used to help him with his living and medical expenses so that he can take his mind off of working so much so that he can focus on BEATING THIS THING! Cancer has no mercy and can strike anyone. Please spread the word so that Charles can get the best possible care. Thank you for any donation you can give to help such a deserving young man.
