Castalia's Fight Against TM

February 27th 2017, Our  (Wayne C. Davis II & Jessica) daughter Castalia was hospitalized for bronchiolitis. It took a hard turn and she had to be medically induced to a Coma due to trouble breathing. Later, MRI scan showed inflammation to the spinal cord which is a known symptom of (TM) Transverse Myelitis. It is a very rare auto-immune disease that only affects 1400 people a year and has no known cure.  Her immune system began fighting the bronchiolitis and herself which caused the spinal cord inflammation. Castalia was left with paralysis of the face, neck and right arm. Castalia also had to have a Tracheostomy (breathing tube)put in her neck and G-tube (feeding tube) put into her stomach. She no longer is able to eat baby food, drink from her bottle, hold her head up or lift her right arm. Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy is what needs to be given to her in order to regain function of those body parts. Unfortunately, she was not accepted into inpatient rehabilitation due to her being only 3 months of age. Outpatient rehab was suggested but the insurance company is only paying for 2 days of physical therapy and one day each for occupational and speech. Castalia needs more days to have a better chance at making a full recovery from Transverse Myelitis. The first 3-6 months are crucial with her recovery although it can take up to 2 years or longer. Any donated funds will be used towards her Therapies to help her recover. It has become urgent for extra funds because I (her mother) had to stop working to be home with her 24/7 due to insurance not wanted to cover an in-home nurse.
