Sections of the school roof has remained damaged for the past two years despite numerous requests to the Minister and other government agencies.
 Yesterday-Sunday, July 23,2017 the eaves began to fall. School resumes in less than 45 days and the school remains a safety risk.

Carlea's Dream Initiative is the beginning of what we hope will become a Foundation / Charitable Organization geared towards spreading joy, hope and assistance for sole support parents, battered women and struggling families in the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica.

Many women are subjected to unhealthy living conditions and living arrangements due to the lack of proper social supports and programs in the country of Jamaica even today. Women are forced to stay in abusive relationships out of fear; fear of retaliation or fear of fleeing and not being able to adequately provide for themselves and their children.

Mental Health issues are treated as taboo and so women and their children suffer in silence and are sometimes killed by their abusers. Children coming from these environments are marginalized and so many go to school lacking the proper school supplies, poor nutrition or are left to cope.

Carlea has become sensitized to the issues that sometimes arise when children are from abusive or otherwise unstable homes. Carlea who has had the privilege of traveling to Jamaica several times and to whom the opportunity has been granted on numerous occasions to visit Infant Schools has identified the need for more school supplies for the students there as well as an enhanced nutritional program that is accessible by all despite financial lack..

With support, Carlea's Dream Initiative however will be realized in Infant . Primary and High schools  we will be working towards “adopting” and assisting consistently.

This compassionate, 8 year old has been using her pocket money to purchase crayons and papers for the students. It is her hope to acquire school books, lunch pans and other supplies for the students and to contribute to the schools lunch program which will ensure that all students have a chance to be properly nourished consistently and equipt with school supplies on a consistent basis as they chart their way towards academic success.

On her most recent visit to Jamaica Carlea visited yet another infant school for 2 days. She was only able to bring with her small tokens of pencils, sharpeners, erasers and candy as a gift for the students because she did not want to go empty handed.

Carlea has a huge heart with an unlimited capacity to give and show compassion, let us each give even a toonie ($2.00)—the cost of a small Tim Hortons coffee—which in Jamaica can pay for a warm lunch for one or in some cases two days at most public infant and primary schools.

Carlea's Dream Initiative hopes to make a presentation to at least one  student this June 2017. The funds will be handled by the Principal or designate of the school and utilised to cover costs associated with a hot lunch and transportation and or an identified specific need.

I would like to take it a step further by establishing an annual bursary to be awarded to two students (or more as this Dream grows) who have exemplified outstanding academic and behavioral excellence despite extenuating circumstances be it social, health or financial.
