Caleb's Brain Tumor Fund
Donation protected
It is my privilege to begin this Go Fund Me page for Caleb Farrell. Caleb is 15 years old, who is a resident of St. Augustine, FL, and attends St. Augustine High School, where he is a sophomore and is a member of the Yellow Jackets football team. Caleb began having headaches and problems with his sight earlier this year, which led his parents, Richard and Patricia Farrell to the doctor, and after his initial exam and MRI's, found Caleb to have Anaplastic ependymoma. Ependymomas are the third most common type of brain tumor in children (following astrocytoma and medulloblastoma), they are relatively rare, with approximately 200 cases diagnosed in the US each year in children and adults less than 25 years of age. Ependymomas account for 6-12% of brain tumors in children less than 18 years of age, but 30% of brain tumors in children less than 3 years of age 1. The average age at diagnosis is 4-6 years 2-4. The underlying cause and basic biology of these tumors is not fully understood, and the optimal staging and treatment of ependymomas in children requires more study.
Caleb went through the brain surgery last week to remove 95% of the tumor, and will begin daily proton radiation soon. Caleb is strong and a fighter, and we pray for his complete recovery.
Please join me in donating to the Farrell family as they begin this expensive journey, that will prayerfully end with Caleb's full healing.
I hope you will find it in your heart to share with your family and friends as well. Thank you.
