In December the FDA approved a medication called Luxterna, a gene therapy treatment specifically for LCA, the RPE65 genetic mutation, which is the news we have been waiting to hear since Creed was diagnosed six years ago. It is a high adrenaline mode right now as we prepare to head to Miami in a few weeks for the initial exam. Spark Therapeutics has released the cost of Luxterna at $850,000 (to treat both eyes).
At this time we do not know exactly how much we will owe but have been advised it will cost us a lot of money out of pocket for the medication, hospitalization and surgery as well as travel expenses for the above and consultations during surgery and follow-up visits. We ask first for your prayers for all to go flawlessly and then if you are able and feel so moved to donate to help defray some of the expense, we of course would be extremely humbled and grateful.
