Please Help Church of the Good Shepherd Send Its Amazing Teens to a Life-Changing National Youth Event!
We need YOUR help to get our youth to the experience of a lifetime this summer! "The life of the church is changing and we have to expand the way we look at and do youth ministry," said the Rev. Waltrina Middleton, minister for youth advocacy and leadership formation. "Every NYE introduces something new!”
Our youth (high school age) from Church of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque, NM will get to experience, up close and personal, the best of youth ministries along with an expected 5,000 other youth and their accompanying adults! It will cost around $12,000-$14,000 to get everyone there, cover the hotel & meals, and pay the registration fees for all of our youth as well as the adults who have graciously stepped up to chaperone our kids (...in the midst of thousands of other teenagers!!). COGS and its youth are determined to raise all the funds needed so that no one has to pay out of pocket to get to the National Youth Event and they have already raised a good portion of those funds through a huge estate/yard sale, special offerings, etc., but we need help to get to our goal!
The National Youth Event being held in Orlando, Florida from July 26-29, 2016, will be a life-altering experience for all who attend. NYE 2016 will also become the first-ever joint youth event with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as the denominations in 2016 celebrate 25 years of communion. By welcoming families from the UCC and the Disciples of Christ, as well as international participants, NYE 2016 expects nearly 5,000 attendees!
Youth will engage in social justice issues, receive renowned Disney leadership & customer service training, participate in a variety of workshops, and be part of a number of service projects in communities around Orlando. UCC & DCC, in planning this year’s event have considered human rights, worker rights, unions, and are vigilant about these issues.
We are so very grateful for any level of support you might be able to offer our youth. They are a wonderful, thoughtful, insightful group of young people who ARE our future...and if they are any indication, our future is very bright!
Please note that any funds raised in excess of those needed for the NYE trip will be used for future COGS Youth Programs!!
