#95for95 Justice for the Sugar Land 95

Donation protected
We want to show the city of Sugar Land and Fort Bend ISD that people are paying attention and want justice for the humans who died in Texas' convict leasing system.

The bodies of 95 prisoners enslaved through convict leasing at the "Hellhole on the Brazos" were discovered this spring during construction of a FBISD high school.

Your support will help the Convict Leasing and Labor Project continue fighting to preserve their burial site and to properly memorialize these individuals and all who suffered under this brutal system.

Convict leasing trapped thousands of black humans across the South in slave-like conditions from the years after the Civil War until World War II. Black individuals, mainly men, were arrested and convicted of frivolous charges and then leased to businesses where many were literally worked to death.  Imperial Sugar and the city of Sugar Land were built on the backs of these enslaved prisoners, as were many other Southern cities and states.

This Thanksgiving, we urge you to give #95for95 to help us bring to light this dark chapter of U.S. history. Any amount will help us build momentum toward our ultimate goal of creating a memorial and museum that will educate the public about this crime against humanity.
