Brian & Shimeaka Hodges Fund
While, we are happy to report that Brian and Shimeaka, have both made it back to the US- and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed CA hospital, his current medical condition is unknown.
The initial goal of $50,000.00 was met very quickly, and The Hodges Family is grateful for all of the love & support.
Since there is still a significant need for continued financial support, the goal will remain at $100,000- but it's your prayers at this very difficult time are the primary and immediate need.
Out of respect for the Hodges family privacy, I am declining any interviews until further notice.
Brian and I just wanted to apologize for not updating you sooner. First I would like to report that my husband's recovery is going very well! There are some deficits that we expect to see with severe traumatic brain injury, but we will not complain. He is able to walk (with a limp), talk, take care of his personal needs (showering, feeding and dressing himself), read, write, and remember, just not as well as he use to. God has been so good to both of us! He is currently getting rehabilitation at a local brain injury facility here in Bakersfield called Centre of Neuro Skills, there they are working on his cognition, education, counseling, occupational and physical therapy and they are doing a great job.
He wants to personally thank everyone for their donations for his surgeries and flight to the US to bring him home alive. He says he cannot believe total strangers are helping to take care of us, he is truly touched beyond measure.
I ask that you continue to pray for us, for my husband is severely depressed. He is having a hard time dealing with not being able to remember things that use to come natural, choose the right word or phrase, and especially work. He cannot come to terms that he might not be able to return to his line of work ever again. He is a commercial truck driver but his injuries prevent him from driving at this time. He tells me he hates that he cannot take care of me like he promised in his wedding vows, and he hates it even more that I have to take care of him. I tell him that marriage is a partnership and we are suppose to take care of each other, maybe this is how God wanted to teach us this lesson.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for caring so much! God bless you all,
Brian and I, just wanted to personally thank each and everyone who sent donations, prayers, love, emails, texts, and/or phone calls. Each one of you played a role in my husband's recovering process as well as keeping me strong during this tragic time. Right now I'm staying steadfast in the Word of God, and I have given God my husband's health/ life. God has shown up and shown out, but is not through with him yet! My husband is not longer considered critical and has not only left the ICU, but he has now transferred to a long term acute care hospital a little closer to home. He is able to talk again, which we discovered he has severe amnesia and ramble random thoughts and phrases. The only memory he has anytime I ask him is his mother's name ( mama's boy
I just thought of you the other day and wondered how your husband's recovery was going. Thank you for this update. It's so thoughtful of you to keep us informed.
Good morning, I am glad to hear that your husband is no longer in ICU and closer to home. We also had a similar accident on a zip line in cabo San Lucas in November of 2014. My husband had to be medically airlifted to San Diego to survive his injuries. He was in ICU and stayed in the ICU trauma for close to a month before we could travel back home in December. He is still recovering. If you would like to talk please contact me. We have had many of the same personal and emotional struggles getting him home and recovery.
God is good all the time, I remember sitting at my visits and my husband mention your husband and he sent his prayers to the both of you, and I told him I too have pray for you two and I never met your husband, but I have met you and you are good people. When ever you're ready I will still make that chicken I promise. Stay true to God and he will see you through in his might name Amen.

Continuing to hold you both in prayer as you take each day at a time knowing that God and a lot of people are by your side. In Jesus name I pray that God's angels work closely with the doctors and nurses. If it is God's will, Amen!

So glad to hear they are back in Cali. Continuous prayers.
Good news that you are back in the U.S. God bless you Brian and Shimeaka. My prayers are with you, hoping for a complete and quick recovery.
I am so amazed by EVERYONE'S prayers and generosity! It is great to see this outpouring of support for my friend, Shimeaka, and her husband, Brian! None of us knows when tragedy may strike, but thankfully, here in the U.S., we know we can get medical care regardless of our ability to pay! I can't even begin to imagine all that Shimeaka has gone through this past week or so. We all knew she was a strong woman, but oh Lord, what a test! Also, thank you for all of you who have helped get the word out across the country and the world. May we all, one day, live in a world where human life is valued greater than money! May each and every one of you have just as much love and support if and when you may need it, as Shimeaka and Brian are receiving from you now. All God's Blessings & ~Peace~
...praising God and dancing the victory dance by myself for safely landing the Hodges family on American soil. Thank you, Jesus and all who offered prayer, time and/or finances.
Shimeaka, My family's prayers are with you and your husband. Here's a hug from your high school friend. :-) Take care and God bless you and your family.
