Bill Lapham looses lower leg

BILL LAPHAM LOSES LIMB
While doing a good deed some weeks ago our dear friend, Bill Lapham, ulcerated his heel. Despite numerous medical visits with wound care specialists, a team of neurosurgeons, and other medical professionals, the wound deepened to the bone and spread up his leg. Bill has been subjected to hospital admittances and, during the most recent, he lost his lower leg and is currently battling several infections that are threatening his thigh.
When Bill is released from the hospital and from rehab, his home must be retrofitted. This includes building ramps and widening doorways for wheelchair access. Moreover, medical insurance does not cover many day-to-day costs associated with a life changing event as dramatic as this.
Since Bill’s college graduation he has given of himself selflessly.
• In his early years, Bill journeyed to India to serve in the Peace Corp. During his service to the people of India, he became fluent in several dialects and still uses them to this day.
• Federal Park visitors with disabilities rely on Bill’s website for suggestions to determine which parks are ADA compliant and most user-friendly.
• Bill spearheaded his 50th high school reunion, contacting some 322 former class mates. He also created a photographic presentation – Yesterday and Today - showcasing 50 years of change for each attendee.
• Silicon Valley colleagues knew him as a teacher, builder, creator and all around exceptional engineer.
• The Applegate Valley Fire District relies on his volunteer skills to keep their computers running and their website updated.
• Bill is an accomplished wood crafter, ballroom dancer, archer, supreme jokester, and great friend.
• Bill never says “no" when you need a hand.
