My Aunt Belinda
Aunt Belinda has recently been diagnosed with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SSC) which is head and neck cancer. She has a cervical lymph node in the left upper neck.
It is not curable, but is treatable.
She was given her prognosis in August (2018). Yet, she discovered the lump in July 2018. Doctors had misdiagnosed her and were mistreating her symptoms. They believe she has had this for a very long time. Her immune system has been very busy besides those symptoms. She has had shingles, bronchitis, and pneumonia- all which have really put a strain on her body, health, mind, and finances.
She does not have insurance coverage that will cover her treatment/medical expenses. Her previous insurance company, Comal Care, has been maxed out of payable benefits- leaving her with no current coverage. At this point, because of her age (she is too young- 62), the kind of cancer (if it were below the neck she could find government help), and the fact that she does not make enough money- she falls through the cracks with meeting criteria to be eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, etc.
She has seen many doctors and has visited several hospitals- including MD Anderson. She has had a PET, CT, CAT and head scans, an ultrasound, a biopsy, and has recently had her tonsils removed as this cancer can affect her ability to swallow and talk. The doctors and hospitals all require money to begin treatment. She needs at least $20,000 just to get started. This will cover most of the 35 treatments of radiation (5 days a week for 7 weeks) and needing to begin no LATER than January 1, 2019. Each radiation treatment will cost $1,500. After her radiation treatments, chemotherapy will follow.
We are asking family, friends, friends of family and friends to open their hearts and help my aunt Belinda with her medical expenses. Every dollar counts and we are asking that you keep her in your constant prayers. Aunt Belinda has minimal sources of income- a small social security check that covers utilities and food so she is needing our help. She had been a long time care taker to her Godchild and their siblings but had to stop working due to her illness.
Aunt Belinda is an extremely beautiful person inside and out. I am helping her because I love her dearly and because she is my only living (blood) aunt on my father's side. These 2 photos were taken a few years ago. She asked that the one picture with me to be posted and the other with her sister who passed away last year, making her the only living sister of her family. As for her hair color, she is now grey as in her main photo for gofundme.
