Bee Girl Needs a Truck!
Tax deductible
The Bee Girl organization's work is beekeeping education and
honey bee conservation. The director,
Sarah Red-Laird, travels all around the country speaking about the importance
of bees to all sorts of groups of folks, teaching beekeeping classes, and
working with kids with our "Kids and Bees" program. Our nonprofit also has beehives in Southern
Oregon that we use for teaching and making honey. It became quite apparent last summer, after a
grandiose wax melting/honey flooding incident (see picture's below and above), that Sarah's personal car
could no longer take the abuse of the long miles (for speaking, teaching, and
Kids and Bees presentations) and hundreds of pounds of honey that need to be schlepped
around the Valley and beyond.
The great news is that after months of searching, we have found the perfect little Bee Mobile. It's an adorable 1980 Toyota pick-up. It was on the market for $2,000, but the seller* is going to give us a deal for $1,500. We would love your help in purchasing this truck, and every dollar counts! What do you get? Dollars donated are eligible for a tax deduction, as the Bee Girl organization is a charity recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3). Better yet, knowing that Bee Girl will no longer be riding around in a car (on its last leg: poor Ms. Burgundy) filled with smoker smoke, a few dozen loose bees, and a very sticky mess that only a hoard of thousands of bees could love.
*Here is the bonus, the seller is Geoff Huber, champion Cyclo-cross racer who will use the money from the truck sale to compete at Cyclo-cross nationals in Boulder, CO, in January 2014. Cheers to one passion supporting another!
