Help Bring Music to Marin City

Bayside MLK School is a public K-8 elementary and middle school in Marin City that has seen extracurricular activities cut over the years. The Center for Excellence, a newly formed 501-c3 dedicated to empowering kids of Marin City through the arts and education, is teaming up with Glassdoor, the fastest-growing job site in the U.S. and neighbor of Marin City, to help these local students explore their love of music. The goal? To put a musical instrument in the hand of every student in the 3rd through 8th grades by 2018. We are seeking donations to invest in musical instruments and the lessons, performances, and maintenance that are needed to teach music.
While Marin County is one of the most affluent in the entire country, Marin City is like an island, where many families are struggling to make ends meet. The majority of students at Bayside MLK qualify for assisted lunch program and resources are scarce. Yet, we know kids exposed to music and the arts stretch their creativity, build confidence and learn the discipline that can spill over into other areas of their lives. We are asking you to join us to ensure these kids are not left behind.
We are kicking off a 60-day fundraising and instrument drive to help Marin City kids and invite you to join us through this GoFundMe campaign to raise $70,000.
To help kick off the instrument drive, Glassdoor’s house band, Transparency, will be performing at The Sweetwater in Mill Valley August 29 from 6-8 p.m. This event is open to the public and admission is a suggested tax-deductible donation of $20 OR a new or used musical instrument. We hope if you are local, you will join us.
