Barb's Books 4 Kids

As technology has become more and more available, this semi-retired teacher (Yes, me!) is more and more concerned children are reading less, and writing even more seldom.

With my children's picture books I have been offering Author Visits, and book making classes, to students from preschool up to elementary school. My husband and I have been sharing his laptop for several years, and now he needs it more often for his line of work. If at all possible, I would very much appreciate any contributions you would be willing to make so I can purchase a laptop, (with Microsoft Office, and anti-virus software), and a slide projector. These Author Visits are my heart's passion since I struggled a bit, and had to work hard, in school to understand and use language well. I know how much encouragement I needed to keep plugging away at it.

Here's a video I just created so you can hear my heart :

And, for kicks and giggles, here is another fun feline photo from an Author Visit.

I have noticed that in the various schools I have been in so far their technology varies greatly. It would be very nice to offer my Power Point presentations (including my puppet, props, and interactive skits) with my own technology so I don't have to depend on whatever technology they may have. This also makes better business sense because I won't need to stop by each location prior to Author Visits just to check on their available audio visual systems.

In addition to these visits, I am also writing a book for adults about the realities of having a hearing loss, educational newsletters , and a new wordpress blog. This blog is starting to make an impression so far, and I've just finished listening to a webinar on how to make the blog posts even more appropriate for one's audience.

A laptop and slide projector will also allow me to share with older elementary children 1). how one can go about using a self publishing website to upload photos and text right into a book making software program and 2). how to nix that "stinking thinking" that frustrates and overwhelms us from reaching our goals. I even introduced the concept of photo journalism recently to second grade children.

I'm thrilled I have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children who may be so enamored by electronics that they are missing the enjoyment of reading. And, of course, to inspire the next generation of budding authors to create well thought out books is completely beyond my wildest dreams!

If you are unable to contribute at this time, "no worries" as they say, but I would appreciate your prayers for me in this exciting new adventure, especially as I seek a mentor. May God bless until we "meet again."

Feel free to check out my website and my Facebook page.

Thanks for your time, and Happy Spring!!
