BALLERINA: A ONE WOMAN PLAY
When: Wednesday, 8/30/2017
8:00 PM
Where: Schultz Cultural Arts Hall
3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto, CA 94303
Told through dance, music, film and spoken word, Stephanie Herman will perform a world premier piece. Ballerina: A One Woman Play tells the story of the birth of a career, while weaving in behind-the-scenes stories of dedication, injuries, success and triumph. After returning from perfoming in Europe with debilitating back and knee injuries that her doctors warned would prevent her from ever dancing again, Stephanie healed herself by developing therapeutic exercises.
Join us for a post-play reception and Q & A. Enjoy a display of Rudolph Nureyev's ballet shoes as well as photography and film documenting iconic performances by ballerina Stephanie Herman.
Stephanie Herman is a prodigy of George Balanchine and the Recipient of the Selva Scholarship Award from the famed High School of Performing Arts. At nineteen years old, Stephanie became a Prima Ballerina for George Balanchine's dance companies in Zurich and Geneva, Switzerland. She proceeded to dance all around the world with luminaries such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Rudolph Nureyev, Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey.
After returning from Europe with debilitating back and knee injuries that her doctors warned would prevent her from ever dancing again, Stephanie healed herself by developing therapeutic exercises. These routines are the basis for her trademark methods "CoreTique and Pilates Ballet by Stephanie Herman," which Stephanie continues to teach today.
