Help Awaken Dance And New Destiny
USING CREATIVITY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED
In the changing political climate, it's important that we support freedom of speech and the arts, as well as those communities most in need.
This Fundraiser combines helping those in need with supporting the arts. Awaken Dance Theater is working in conjunction with New Destiny Housing -- a nonprofit that aims to provide safe housing for survivors of domestic abuse. Half of the proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit them, and the other half will support ADT, a NYC-based company dedicated to social justice and political engagement.
HOW WILL YOUR DONATION BE USED?
New Destiny Housing:
- Family Support Program – Services that successfully help families to remain stable in their housing and become financially independent including case management, employment coaching, family and children's activities, workshops on personal finances and workplace readiness, eviction prevention services and referrals for specialized services.
- Development of two new permanent affordable housing projects for domestic violence survivors and their children
- One-on-one technical assistance and workshops that help to prevent homelessness among low-income domestic violence survivors, and also help households to find – and retain – affordable housing
Awaken Dance Theater:
Our half of the funds will be used to continue creating and performing works in our 2017 season.
- Studio space for rehearsals
- Props and prop transportation fees
- Performance venue costs
- Photography
- Videography
- Dancer fees/stipends
- Printing costs for programs and flyers
- Music and music editing
- Costumes
- Piano tuning
* All administrative work on a volunteer basis by the Artistic Director and Administrative Intern.
MORE ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS
Since its founding in 2014, Awaken Dance Theater has created works on issues ranging from gun control and racism , to women's rights and climate change . We've performed at numerous showcases and self-produced performances in and around NYC, and are the hosts of In Remembrance: Dancing for Orlando .
Over the years we've raised over $4,000 in donations to help our company grow. As we continue to create high quality, relevant dance pieces, we need your help to offset the costs of doing so. Any amount you can give is truly appreciated!

IN CONCLUSION
We at Awaken Dance Theater are very excited to be partnering with New Destiny Housing for our first joint fundraiser. As important as it is to make art that reflect the world around us and looks at the bigger picture, it is just as important to make sure that communities at risk are included in the dicussion and their basic needs are being addressed. Awaken Dance Theater hopes that through this fundraiser and our work, we can address how the politcal is often personal and prioritize people in this crucial transitional point in our politcal climate.
