Funds for Aurelie's Education

Donation protected

My name is Aurelie Sanhaji, I am a first generation-immigrant living in Montreal, Quebec. As my 28th birthday is approaching, I have grown particularly discouraged by the way job opportunities have been denied to me as someone who wasn't able to finish high school. Due to growing up particularly poor, I had to leave high school at the age of 16 to help my single mother support my siblings and I. This decision I had to make has been haunting me ever since, and the many opportunities and learning experiences I have missed out on.

Yet, these missed experiences and opportunities have not stopped me from reaching my own accomplishments. In 2015, after harassment and threats from online groups of men (in particular, outspoken anti-feminists) I created 'A Woman on the Internet' as an online space where conversations about experiences of abuse on online platforms can take place. Since, 'A Woman on the Internet' has grown into a large platform and community where conversations about various sociopolitical and intersectional subjects are discussed on a daily basis, as of 2019 my audience if of 87 thousand.

Yet, I continue to struggle with employment, perhaps due to the negative opinions on high school "dropouts". I struggle financially as a person, but also as a disabled person (Type 1 Diabetic, Endo, Chronic pain, PTSD and depression), it has become alarmingly difficult for me to tend to myself, especially as I continue to be considered "unemployable".

This is where this Gofundme comes into play, or so I hope, in my hope of finally getting an education and reaching my goal in life.

As a rape and sexual assault victim, I have wished for studies that could give me the ability and skills to help people with similar pasts and/or experiences, which also learning more about sexuality (both the positive and 'negative' aspects), something I'm very passionate about.

As I am writing this, I am currently awaiting multiple counselling sessions in order to learn exactly what would be the cost of something such as  a Bachelor in Sexology (as well as a Program focusing on Sexual Violence), to finally be given the chance to be who it is that I want to be, to finally be able to give the help I have been given through AWOTI in a professional, educated manner and position.

I will be adding more information as I go through my counselling sessions. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
