Alba's Bond Fund/ Asylum fund

*(The above photo is a picture Alba drew in detention for her 4-year-old son Joshua)*

This fundraising effort is to get “Alba” out of Eloy immigration detention center, and raise funds for future clients of the University of Arizona's Immigration Law Clinic.

Alba is a 22-year-old mother of two from Honduras, who is seeking asylum in the United States after suffering years of gender-based violence and persecution, including kidnapping and rape. We are afraid that she will be raped, killed, or both if she is forced to return to Honduras.

Alba has been detained in a cold, isolating prison in Eloy, AZ since June 2017. Her mental and physical health have been deteriorating as a result of her long stay in detention.  If released on bond, since she has no close friends or family in this country, she will be hosted by a women’s shelter in Tucson, AZ, where she will receive the services and support she needs.  From there, she can continue to work on her legal case, and we think she has a strong chance of being granted asylum.  If she wins, she can then reunite with her two children, ages 4 and 6.  They are currently in the care of Alba’s mother in Honduras, and could legally join their mother in the US once she wins asylum.

By choosing to help Alba, you would be changing the life of a good- hearted person who is in desperate need of your help, and is very worthy of your kindness. But that is not all. Your donation will also help future asylum-seekers and other immigrant detainees who receive free legal representation by the University of Arizona's Immigration Law Clinic.

That is because when Alba’s immigration proceedings are finished, whether she wins or loses her case, all the money raised will be returned back to the clinic's general “bond and travel fund” (which we are drawing on to cover a part of Alba’s bond, but we do not currently have sufficient funds to cover her very high bond).  So after Alba, the money will be used to help someone else, then someone else, then someone else... Your gift would be a gift that would keep on giving, and would have the potential to touch many different lives, and give hope and relief to many people.

Thank you all for your kindness and generosity. Every little bit helps, and it means the world to Alba and her family.
