An Answer for Homelessness

My name is Michelle Hanley and I am the Finance Manager for Shelter from the Storm Ministries, Incorporated (SFTSM). SFTSM is a small volunteer led ministry in the process of building a transitional family shelter for homeless moms and their children.
As the Finance Manager I work closely with our donations, sponsors, and banks. We unfortunately still have $220,000 in materials and labor we need to raise to get our shelter open. Currently we have a pregnant mother with a first grader who is temporarily staying with a board member. We have received 5 referrals in the past two weeks for mom’s and their kids who need shelter. Can you help?
The Wisconsin State Journal ran a story on July 17th, 2016 listing off the numbers of homeless children registered in each city school district within Wisconsin. Sun Prairie, a small city suburb located close to Madison, Wisconsin, reported 137 registered homeless children.
We have had lots of community involvement from individuals to organizations, but we still need help. Our building has been demolished on the inside and rebuilt. We have added the larger pipes required by the city to be able to provide water to the required sprinkler system and to the 11 family suites, each with a small kitchen space and bathroom.
Our building is very close to being completed. We are in the process of raising money for drywall which is our next step. We still have to complete the plumbing, electrical, insulation, sprinkler system, vertical lift (elevator), heating, flooring, cabinetry, doors, emergency exit, porch, storage, and all the finishing touches for each family suite. We are raising money with events and through grants but so far we have still fallen short on the funding we need to open our building.
All of the money raised through this Go Fund Me Campaign minus the fees will go directly to our building costs. We would love to have the shelter open by the end of 2016. I will be posting updates as we receive funds and complete projects.
We would be so grateful and humbled if you would join us in taking care of single moms and kids who have nowhere else to turn. Any amount helps and with the hands of many we can do so much!
