Alyssa's Cultural Exchange

My name is Alyssa Tran. I am a junior this year at St. Croix Falls High School. During the summer of 2019, I would like to go on a foreign exchange to Japan. The program I will be going on is called State's 4-H International Exchange. On this 8 week trip, I hope to learn more about my self and learn about the culture of such a fascinating country. I hope as I explore the culture there, I discover a new found appreciation for my hometown. I hope to meet new types of people, and eat lots of new food! 

I am interested in going to Japan because I want to learn more about myself. Having a host sister taught me a lot about myself. It helped me view things from a different perspective, and be less quick to judge people. When I was explaining to her different aspects of my community, it helped me appreciate it more. I never looked at my hometown as I had at that moment. It opened a new found love of my community and understanding of my society. I hope that as I travel to Japan it helps me find that same understanding of myself and the world. Having lived in a small town for my whole life, I have only understood one side of me.

I ask for your kindness to help me travel to this new place. This trip would mean a lot for me as I grow into an adult. I know this is cheesy, but I really do feel that I will discover the type of person I am in Japan. Everything you donate will help me on my journey. The money you give will go towards buying plane tickets, and a language camp in Japan.
