A Perfect Storm for Michelle

A PERFECT STORM FOR MICHELLE

We are writing you on behalf of our dear friend, Michelle Hilmes, 47. Known to her closest friends as Wonder Woman, Michelle is always the first to help others, and never ask for help for herself.

On February 16, 2015 she was diagnosed with a need for emergency brain surgery that resulted in the removal of a lesion from her brain. This set off a devastating chain of events that have caused her life to spiral quickly downward.

Post surgery, she is disoriented, physically weak due to a dramatic weight loss,  and unable to make completed sentences coherently.  Self employed for ten years doing property valuations, she is now, due to the surgery, visually impaired in her right eye rendering her unable to drive a vehicle (her sole means of support). The meager insurance she had did not cover the astronomical cost of her brain operation, hospital stay, nor her much needed therapies. As of this writing, she has been dropped entirely from her insurance company. This has halted all her care, ongoing testing, and her crucial rehabilitation. Currently, she is waiting for the results of her MRI to determine the cause of her affliction.  What little money she had in the bank was quickly eaten up by her daily bills and house payments.

Single, and a fiercely independent homeowner, and mother to two sweet dogs she has raised from puppies, she has been forced to give her home of 10 years back to the bank, and, unable to even care for herself, with great sorrow, give up her beloved companions.

Her vision loss and cognitive issues have made navigating the benefits system nearly impossible. Her family is unable to assist financially and live out of state. She has sold what possessions she could.

Michelle’s needs are immediate and long term.  She needs financial support for her day to day expenses, housing, and ongoing medical care and rehabilitation.

Please consider donating to help Michelle receive the care she so desperately and deservedly needs to determine the parameters of her health issues, and regain her dignity and independence.
