A Work of heART

My name is Olivia and I am a 17 year old, senior at Cedar Creek and I started a 501c3, non-profit organization to provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere where children and young adults with a temporary or terminal illness that spend extended periods of time at a medical facility can express themselves creatively through art therapy.  My non-profit organization, A Work of heART, was created after Katie Joyce, the child of a family friend battled a brain tumor, called ependymoma, and became an angel on December 8, 2015. While Katie was battling cancer she spent many weeks/months at St. Jude's & Le Bonheur Children's Hospital receiving her medical care.  During this time, I was a member of "Team Katie" and a devoted prayer partner for Katie and her family. After losing Katie, I decided I wanted to give back and help children enjoy their time at the hospital they spend so much time in. Over the past year, I have been to Arkansas Children’s, Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Our Lady of the Lake, MedCamps, the NELA Wish I Could Foundation annual Christmas Party, and I return to Shriners and Children’s of Mississippi on a quarterly schedule.
