Help Expand ASCV Scholarships

Tax deductible
Help the Autism Society Central Virginia expand our scholarship program for 2018!

Inspired by the impact our scholarship programs have on local families, a generous anonymous donor has agreed to match donations to our scholarship fund dollar for dollar up to $4,000 in a two-week campaign from July 31st to August 14th.

Team up with this donor and help us increase the 2018 scholarship fund!

So far in 2018 the ASCV is proud to have provided scholarships to 52 individuals for programs like swim lessons, dance classes and summer camps!

But we want to do MORE!  An additional $8,000 could provide 26+ additional individuals with scholarships.

The ASCV currently offers three types of scholarships to give individuals with autism and their families the opportunity to participate in recreational, social and educational activities they may not otherwise be able to afford. Click here to learn about these scholarships.

The ASCV developed its scholarship program recognizing the overwhelming need for funding social, recreational, and educational activities for the autism community. As many families face heavy financial burdens, the added cost of these types of activities often is not feasible. One family shares, "We're looking forward to participating again this year! And a HUGE thank you to ASCV for making the financial burden a little lighter!"

Research data demonstrates that recreational activities provide much benefit to individuals with autism and assist with social skills and inclusion in the community. Scholarships for activities like swim lessons help with an individual’s safety. With drowning being one of the leading causes of death for individuals with autism, water safety is of utmost importance. One recipient of a scholarship for swim lessons shared, "He went from being VERY afraid of the water to comfortable in the water. Two weeks ago was the first time I saw my son floating in the water."

Another family shares feedback about their scholarship to a summer camp, "This is our 2nd year with the camp. He gets to spend time with his peers. It keeps a sense of consistency during the summer that is very valuable for my son who is challenged by transitions and changes in schedule."

Please consider making a donation today! With your help, we can continue to provide individuals with these invaluable opportunities.
