ACT on the Iditarod Trail

As we look forward to the upcoming 2016 Iditarod, we are requesting your help and support for Alaskans Changing Together (ACT) , and “ACT on the Trail”.   ACT is a bold call to action for all communities across Alaska to come together with shared hope and vision.   

 Last fall I had the opportunity to introduce this wellness initiative with my friend Governor Bill Walker and the support of our congressional delegation.  ACT empowers Alaskans to establish wellness goals, encourage their families, friends and neighbors, and work to prevent abuse, neglect, suicide and suffering in their communities.

 “ACT on the Trail” links the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race  with Alaskans Changing Together.  Iditarod is an exciting time when people from all walks of life come together to support the race and the Alaskan spirit and strength it represents. 

 ACT represents these same values, and “ACT Along the Trail” is a unique opportunity to increase involvement in the race and to make Alaska a better place thorough acting to:

§   Form youth councils, wellness coalitions, and youth leader programs at every checkpoint community along the Iditarod trail.

§   Increase engagement of community residents with the Iditarod.

§   Promote wellness, and increase awareness and utilization of existing prevention programs.

§   Offer financial support to community organizations participating in “ACT on the Trail” and generate the greatest local positive impact.

§   Obtain a commitment from partners for sustainable statewide action.

Please join Governor Walker, our partners statewide, and me, by becoming a part of “ACT on the Trail”.  Your participation and financial  support will help Alaskans come together through the Iditarod and impact wellness statewide.
