Scale Model project for US Marines

Donation protected
In may of 2018, I had the honor and privilege of building a scale model of an EA-6B aircraft for the last Commanding Officer of Marine Corps squadron VMAQ-3.

This year, I built five scale models for the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Operations Officer, Maintenance Officer and SgtMaj of Marine Corps squadron VMAQ-2. What I thought would be an occasional, fun thing to do, has turned into something much bigger. After receiving several requests from other squadron Marines to build models for them, it was decided that I would make it my goal to provide scale models to any active duty Marine that wanted one, free of charge.

In addition to the scale models, I have also been working on a book dedicated to the history of the paint schemes and squadron markings applied to Marine Corps aircraft since 1989. Part of the funds raised will be set aside to begin the process of getting this book published on November 10, 2024. A lot more research is needed!

Through a fundraiser on Facebook, I have been able to raise $1152.00 to date. All of the funds raised have been, or will be used to purchase the scale models needed, consumable materials (paints, glue, etc), as well as cover shipping fees to get the finished models to their respective recipients and possible travel expenses if it is feasible and/or needed to personally deliver them. As an example, it would be safer to hand deliver a 1/48 scale KC-130 model to MCAS Cherry Point for VMGR-252 than it would be to ship it.

Currently, the list of builds is at 38 and is expected to grow throughout the year. The *average* cost of each model (purchase price, shipping to me, packing materials and shipping to recipient) is approximately $100 +/- depending on the kit and location of the Marine receiving it.

After the 38 kits currently in the queue, all current aviation squadron Commanding Officers will be covered. In addition, maintenance Marines and squadron Officers will also have models built for them. It is my hope to make this a long term project with no set end date in sight. I will simply continue to build models for Marines until I am no longer able to do so.

My love and respect of Marine Corps aviation and my fellow Marines is second only to that which I have for my family and close friends. Please help any way you can by allowing me to honor these men and women with scale models of the aircraft they flew and maintained.

All progress can be followed on my Facebook page, Flying Leathernecks Scale Creations. Please stop by, like and follow the page and share it. Weekly updates will be posted every Friday and will include photos of builds, as well as information regarding your donations and expenditures for the previous week.

Thank you, Semper Fidelis and God Bless!
