A mistake shouldn't lead to Deportation

My name is Julio Calderon and I’m originally from Honduras.. I’m an undocumented student. I identified myself as a DREAMer, even though I’m not DREAM Act eligible. I was left out of the DACA because I arrived just a month after my 16th Birthday. I have been doing a lot of work around DREAM Act and Deferred Action in the last 5 years.

Just recently, we were fighting for in-state tuition in Florida, which passed. In order to get it passed, we had to go to Tallahassee, which is 7 hours away from Miami, where I live. Even though a lot of people couldn’t go during finals week (I was also taking Finals at the end of that week), I didn’t want to stay home without having to fight for my DREAM. I asked for days off from work and asked my parents to lend me money so myself and 2 other students could go. On April 22nd, we left and on our way to Tallahassee, a state trooper stopped us. It was 1:00am and I didn’t realize I was going 92mph, since the street was empty. I was given a speeding ticket and court for driving without a license. I never received my court day in the mail and believed they had dropped the charges since I had paid for the ticket. I just found out I was given a bench warrant. Not only I will not be driving anymore, but I also need to pay a lawyer to drop all my charges, since I’m afraid they may alert ICE. I can’t present myself because the court is 6 hours away from Miami Dade County. The lawyer will take care of it. He is currently charging me 2,500 plus court and other fees. This comes to a total of 3,000 dollars.

That day I took my car and drove to Tallahassee regardless of not having a license. I believed we could win, and we did. I have made many mistakes but this mistake shouldn’t lead to my deportation. That’s why I believe I need to remove my charges before the court alerts ICE. I’m asking for your help. Every time I reach out to the community, it's to create awareness or help you all, but this time I’m reaching out because I need your help.
