Lilly is loved.  She has recently gone into acute liver failure and she continues to be very sick.  She has been undergoing tests to find a cause but thus far her doctors have not found an answer.  She has been hospitalized for nearly 2 weeks in a pediatric hospital.  Her family has been told that she needs to remain hospitalized for another few weeks if not months.

Lilly has an amazing group of people around her cheering her on and she is a fighter.  Currently her prognosis is good but this time is filled with challenges.  Her parents have had to stop working to be with her in this important time and have had to transplant their lives to another city as she undergoes treatment.  As an additional hardship their family's insurance was canceled unexpectedly.

This is an exceptional family going through a very difficult time.  Would you please consider helping them through this time with a financial donation, thoughts or prayers.

Happy New Year.

It's been a while since we have shared an update about Lilly. That's mostly because we still have only questions instead of answers.

As I write this Lilly is undergoing an upper endoscopy and more biopsies. We transferred care to UCSF in San Francisco in hopes of finding some answers (and based on the recommendation of her doctor in Seattle).

The results of today's procedure will determine if Lilly has Celiacs disease in addition to liver disease, but still won't determine the cause or type of liver disease, although it now appears that autoimmune hepatitis is the most likely answer (autoimmune has no cure but can be managed with medications).

Thank you for the continued support, care, and love for Lillian. She's an amazing girl who has inspired many, and in turn we have been inspired by the outpouring of support for her.

All the best in the New Year!

An update on Lilly is long overdue. My apologies.

If you are a friend of ours on Facebook you probably already know, but after a lot of improvement, Lilly's progress stalled out a few months ago. At our regular checkup in July the doctor said we need another biopsy (her last one was September 2014) to see what her liver really looks like and why her numbers were slowly getting worse.

This month we went to Seattle after a long vacation in San Diego (which included Disney Land, thanks to Papa and Lola!). After the biopsy Lilly had internal bleeding that required a blood transfusion as well as a couple of days in the hospital.

Today, Lilly shows no effects from the transfusion. Unfortunately, the biopsy results showed continued inflammation, if no further scarring.

While her liver is only slightly inflamed, it is getting worse again, and continued inflammation can lead to permanent scarring.

All this means that Lilly is back on steroids and t-cell inhibitors, for a minimum of two years.

At this point, we are exploring other options (we don't have any support network in Seattle, so if she were to need a transplant things would be very difficult). With the help of her current doctor we have had her records transferred to UCSF and continue to explore options over seas, as well.

Lillian has been amazing through all the transfusions (4 including blood and plasma), needle pokes (at least 100 in the past year+), doctors visits, hospital stays, etc. The picture I added to this page is from the Bend LaPine School District Calendar. Lilly is Miss. August... deservedly so.

Thank you for all of your continued support and love for Lilly.
Brave indeed

On this Thanksgiving, we are so very grateful and thankful for everyone who has helped our family and helped Lilly over the past 6 months. It's been a long battle, but during our most recent hospital trip in Seattle we were told that Lilly has turned a corner and is actually starting to get better. In fact, the doctor says that her turnaround could help save other children from transplants in the future, because recovery is so rare in cases like hers.

So we are grateful for your support, love, and kindness. We are grateful for improved health. We are grateful for Lilly being such a fighter and eternal optimist. She is nothing short of amazing.

I hope that you are able to take a moment this Thanksgiving to remember all of the good you have in your life and all the people who are thankful to have you in their lives. We appreciate you and everyone who has helped us.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

What a long summer it was. Between hospital visits, life-flight, needle pokes, and numerous specialists, we still had to get Lilly ready for Kindergarten. Today we had her first parent-teacher conference and learned that she is in the "advanced" reading group and excelling at school despite everything that has happened. It makes us so proud as parents and makes us feel so lucky that we have such a wonderful little girl.

Tomorrow we get to celebrate Lilly's sixth birthday at home (our next doctor visit isn't until next Friday), the way a 6-year-old SHOULD get to celebrate a birthday.

We can't thank you enough for supporting Lilly and our family as we try to help her get healthy and "back to normal." We still don't know why she is sick or how to fix it. She is on new medications and we get needle pokes weekly and travel to Seattle 2-3 times a month for doctor visits. We know it is not auto-immune and we know her condition has been reclassified as "chronic" rather than acute. Other than that, we keep hoping for good news and good answers.

In the meantime, it has been amazing to see the outpouring of support from friends, family, and strangers whom we hope will be friends sooner than later. Lilly is an amazing little girl that has touched so many lives, which gives us yet another reason to be proud to call her our daughter.

Thank you so much for your support. It means more than you can imagine.

All our love,
Jared, Kimberly, and Lillian
