Ria is one of the most genuine, kind and selfless people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She’s always been there for me during my darkest moments – I’d now like to return the favour.

This story starts three years ago. Ria was in a relationship that was going strong with a wonderful man named Sam, when a heart-breaking incident occurred. They’d only been living together for seven months when Sam’s ex-wife and mother to his two boys tragically committed suicide.

Without hesitation, Ria stepped in becoming the boys step mum. Together she and Sam created a stable family home. It hasn’t been an easy ride; the boys were both understandably traumatised and missed their mum terribly. She supported them when they settled into new schools, adjusted her working hours to accommodate family life, organised counselling and runs their homework schedule with an iron rod! Against the odds, both boys are now well adjusted and enjoying life as much as they can with the absence of their mother.

Since Ria was a little girl, all she’s ever dreamed about is becoming a mum, settling down and having a family of her own. Subsequent to years of failed relationships, she met her current partner when she was 31. Unfortunately, Sam had a vasectomy at the age of 28, they discussed the prospect of a reversal, but wisely decided to see how their relationship developed before taking any steps.

Obviously being step mum to the boys took precedence over anything else, meaning Ria’s own dream for a baby had been on hold. Now the boys are settled and happy, it’s time for her to become a mum to her own child. The boys would dearly love a brother or sister to complete their family.

Sam had a vasectomy reversal in 2017, the excruciatingly painful operation cost £4000 and was sadly unsuccessful. Once he recovered from the physical pain and shock, they decided to try IVF. Sam is not entitled to NHS assistance, so the couple paid £15,000 for their first round. This was more expensive than a usual IVF treatment because Sam had to have sperm extracted from his testicles and it was discovered that Ria had a benign growth in her womb. Eight eggs were successfully fertilised but day by day they died off, only one made it to a blastocyst, but had to be put on ice due to the growth found in her womb. This little egg had a 96% survival rate, but tragically didn’t make it. So here she is starting again from scratch with no funds left in the piggy bank.

I’d like to ask you all to donate towards another round of IVF. There is no one worthier of being a mum than Ria, she is an excellent step mum and has always been a fantastic surrogate auntie to my son. It is my wish that she gets the chance to hold a baby of her own in her arms. Thank you for your time and please share. X
